About the group
Welcome to the 4th Lancing Scout Group and we hope that your child enjoys and will benefit from the time spent with the Group.
We started back in 1974 and although linked to the Methodist Church we are an open group available for all to join.
Scout Groups are run entirely by volunteers and parents are encouraged to become parent helpers. Generally parent helpers assist in running activities can use their skills to run the group or join a rota and assist at meetings once a month. Many helpers decide to assist on a more regular basis and become section assistants or leaders.
Safeguarding is very important to the Scout Association and all Leaders and helpers must undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This replaced the former Criminal Records Check (CRB).
Termly fees range from £20 for Beavers and Cubs to £25 a term for Scouts. A significant part of this is used to pay the annual fees to the Scout Association, The District and County. These fees cover Insurance, Leader Training and Administration. As we are a Church based group we do not have the expense of maintaining a building but we do contribute to heating and lighting. As we are also a charity we take advantage of the Gift Aid Scheme whereby we can recover the Income Tax paid by parent on the termly subscriptions. The majority of parents who pay income tax sign up to the Gift Aid scheme and we recover 25p for every £1 paid in subscriptions.
We also organise social and fund raising events such as a summer BBQ and a Beetle Drive and an annual Quiz when all profits go to a charity.
